After leaving the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad is engaged in the formation of a new party. In a few days, he is going to announce a new party. In such a situation, he is going among the people in Jammu and Kashmir. Amid preparations to form his own party, Azad on Sunday said that he will not mislead people on the issue of Article 370, as only a government with a two-thirds majority in Parliament can ensure restoration of the provision.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday reacted to Ghulam Nabi Azad's 'Article 370 cannot be restored' remark and said it was her personal opinion. Mehbooba Mufti further said that there are voices in J&K who believe that Article 370 will be restored. He said that this is the personal opinion of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
She also said that the Congress had raised its voice against the British and stopped them. Similarly there are voices in J&K who believe that 370 will be restored and it will be resolved. A day earlier on Sunday, Ghulam Nabi Azad, during a rally in Kashmir's Baramulla, had said that about 350 votes in the Lok Sabha and 175 in the Rajya Sabha would be required to restore Article 370. This is a number which no political party has nor is likely to get.
Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said that he has not promised to restore Article 370 in his new political agenda as he does not believe in making false promises. Addressing a public meeting in north Kashmir's Baramulla town, Azad said, "About 350 votes in the Lok Sabha and 175 votes in the Rajya Sabha would be required to restore Article 370. This is a number that no political party has." It is or is not likely to ever. Congress is reduced to less than 50 seats and if they talk of restoring Article 370, they are making false promises."
He said that his political agenda includes restoration of statehood, land and jobs for the local people as these are achievable objectives. He said, "Some people have accused me of voting in favor of the resolution to abrogate Article 370 brought by the Home Minister. I have voted against the abrogation and these people who have no idea about the working of Parliament. Don't know, they are saying that I voted against Article 370."
