What is Tanning?

More melanin is produced by skin when it is exposed to UV rays in an effort to protect it from further damage. The same pigment known as melanin gives your skin, hair, and eyes their colours. Your skin tone may darken over the next 48 hours due to the increase of melanin.


  • Always use sun protection cream. Every day, apply it to your skin.

  • Avoid sun exposure from approximately 10 am to 3 pm. This is the time of year when sunburn-causing UV rays are most intense.

  • Wearing pants with long sleeves and a broad brimmed hat will assist shield your skin from the damaging effects of the sun.

  • Put on sunglasses that block UV rays.
