Hinduism puts a lot of significance to the Bhai Dooj festival. The spiritual bond, love, and attachment between a brother and a sister are expressed at this festival. Immediately following Diwali, the Bhai Dooj celebration this year is observed on October 27, 2022. Every year, on the second day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik, this celebration is observed. On this day, sisters put tilak on their brother's head and wish him a long life filled with happiness, prosperity, and good fortune.

Bhai Dooj Story

It is believed that Lord Krishna visited his sister Subhadra on this day after killing Narakasura. She welcomed him  with a teeka on the forehead.  This day has come to be known as Bhai Dooj.

Our mythology also tells a story of Yamraj, the deity of death, and his sister Yamuna. When he was once contacted by his sister but was unable to attend, the following time he arrived, he was greeted with delectable food. He asked if she wanted a boon after being treated with respect and love by his sister. She requested that a specific day be set aside for him to come by and meet her. Since then visiting sister’s house and eating the food items made from her hand is considered a very auspicious occasion.
