By Election: By-elections in Maharashtra, Bihar, UP, Telangana, Odisha & Haryana BJP vs Regional Parties

Voting for the by-elections to seven assembly seats in six states namely Maharashtra, Bihar, UP, Telangana, Odisha & Haryana has started today i.e. on Thursday. Voting for the seats for the State Assembly by-election began at 7 am today and will continue till 6 pm. 

Voting on these seats

These seats include Gola Gokarnath in Uttar Pradesh, Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Adampur in Haryana, Andheri (East) in Maharashtra, Munugode in Telangana, and Dhamnagar assembly seat in Odisha. In most of these seats, the BJP faces a tough challenge from regional parties like SP, RJD, TRS, and BJD.

BJP vs Uddhav Thackeray

In Andheri East, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena faction has fielded Rutuja Latke, the wife of incumbent Sena MLA Ramesh Latke whose death in May necessitated the poll. The BJP fielded Murji Patel, but he later withdrew his candidature after the party decided not to contest. This will the first election after the revolt in the Shiv Sena by Eknath Shinde and 39 other legislators which led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
