Jammu Tunnel Collapse: Part of Ramban National Highway Portal collapses, many people trapped

A part of a four lane tunnel at the Ramban district in the Jammu Srinagar national highway. Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority says that 10 labourers are still trapped in the debris. Rescue operation is going on.  

The portion collapsed during an investigation at the Khooni Nallah. 2 labourers have been rescued by the rescue operations team, who reached the spot on time. The  Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Director of the Project, DIG and SSP are present at the spot. 

Union Minister tweeted about the incident

Union Minister Jitendra Singh talking about the incident tweeted “"I am in constant touch with the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban. Around 10 workers are buried under the debris. Two others who have been rescued have been admitted to the hospital. Rescue operation is on. Civil administration and police are monitoring the situation.”

Ambulance also reached the spot on time to take the two rescued labourers to hospital. The investigation and rescue operation is still going on. Many vehicles and machines, including bulldozers and trucks parked on the front side of the tunnel, were damaged.

The labourers were of the audit company

The 10 labourers that were trapped under the rubble belonged to the construction company who were part of the investigation. 2 labourers have been rescued and the rescue operation team from the Banihal district is still in the process of rescuing the rest of the workers.


Many machines and equipment are being used to clear the debris in order to rescue the workers. NDRF and SDRF have also reached the spot in order to clear the situation. The team members still stuck under the tunnel are Jadav Roy, Gautam Roy, Sudhir Roy, Deepak Roy, Parimal Roy, Shiv Chauhan, Nawaz Choudhary, Khushi Ram, Muzaffar and Israt.
