Kartavya Path Inauguration: Why Rajpath became Kartavya Path, what will be the changes | Central Vista lawns

08 Sep, 2022

After decades a big change is going to happen in the history of independent India. The road which connects Vijay Chowk and India Gate, Rajpath will now become history. About 3 km long Rajpath will now be known as Kartavya Path in a new form. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Central Vista at 7 pm today. At the same time, the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose will also be unveiled at India Gate. Due to this, traffic will remain closed at India Gate Circle C Hexagon.

Many basic amenities arrangements made

The infrastructure was heavily under pressure due to congestion in the areas around Rajpath and Central Vista Avenue, so it has been revamped. Arrangements have been made for basic amenities like public toilets, drinking water, street furniture and adequate arrangement of parking lots. The Duty Path will showcase improved public spaces and amenities, including walkways as well as lawns, green spaces, refurbished canals, improved boards along the routes, blocks with new amenities and sales stalls. Apart from this, new underground passageways for pedestrians, better parking lots, new exhibition panels and modern lighting will give people a different experience. Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Limited has done the redevelopment work of this entire route from Vijay Chowk to India Gate.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's statue at India Gate is being installed at the same place where the hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled on the occasion of Parakram Divas (January 23) earlier this year. This granite statue will be a true tribute to Netaji for his contribution to our freedom struggle, and will be a symbol of the nation's indebtedness to him. Chief sculptor Arun Yogiraj has carved this 28 feet high statue on a granite stone. It weighs 65 metric tons.

PM’s comment on Rajpath

The PMO said that Rajpath was a symbol of power and renaming it as duty path is a sign of change. The inauguration of the path of duty and the unveiling of the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose is in line with the second pledge of Prime Minister Modi's call for Pancha Prana, in which he had spoken of eliminating all traces of colonial mentality.

The area on both sides of the Rajpath from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan will be called Central Vista. Under this, the new Parliament House, the residence and offices of the Prime Minister and the Vice President will be there. The new Parliament building will be of 64,500 square metres.
