Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De and a supporter of Khalistan, was taken into custody in the Punjabi city of Moga. Amritpal Singh and six of his accomplices were apprehended on the Moga district boundary on Saturday. Following the crackdown on Amritpal Singh and his supporters, the environment in Punjab is tense. In order to prevent any unexpected events, internet service has been suspended in Punjab. Internet access has been shut down in the state until tomorrow at noon.

After chasing him for approximately an hour and a half, about 100 police vehicles apprehended him in the Nakodar region of Jalandhar. Unfortunately, no formal confirmation of his arrest was provided.

Three cases registered against Amritpal

The leader of the pro-Khalistan group “Waris Punjab De”, is the subject of three cases, two of which are in the Ajnala police station in the Amritsar district. On February 23, Amritpal and his supporters attacked the Ajnala police station in response to his rage over the detention of one of his close friends. Several people criticised the Punjab Police for doing little in this situation. Amritpal held events on the Jalandhar-Moga National Highway in the Shahkot-Malsian neighbourhood and Rampura Phool in the Bathinda district on Saturday. Supporters have been assembling in the Shahkot-Malsian area since early in the day for his event.
