National Farmers Day 2021 (Kisan Diwas 2021): Kisan Diwas or Farmers’ Day is observed in India on 23 December. For the commemoration of the 5th Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh birth anniversary, this occasion is celebrated. Chaudhary Charan Singh made some monumental contributions towards the upliftment of farmers in the country.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was a farmer leader who initiated several policies to ensure the betterment of the lives of farmers in the country. He is the backbone of major farmer-forward Bills like the Land Utilisation Bill and Debt Redemption Bill.
He served as the Agriculture Minister in 1952, One of his prominent works is his efforts towards abolishing the Zamindari system in Uttar Pradesh, subsequently, it led him to draft the Land Reforms Bill.
Kisan Divas is celebrated with immense joy and frolic. Various events are organised like debates, quiz competitions, exhibitions, workshops and essay writing competitions in educational institutions.
Prominent people keep seminars, campaigns and conferences to educate people as well as acknowledge the contribution made by the farmers in the entire nation.

Bardoli Movement: The Bardoli Satyagraha was launched in 1928. It was a movement is led by Sardar Vallabhai Patel for the farmers of Bardoli against the unjust imposition of taxes. Mahatma Gandhi also played an important role in this movement.
The Peasant Revolt(1946): In Telangana, this peasant revolt in Hyderabad was a pivotal moment in Indian history. It had a great impact on the future of the communist movement in India. It highlighted the degenerated condition of the Indian peasantry. It brought the struggles of the farmers in limelight and educate people about the sacrifices made by the people of this region in fighting against the autocratic rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad.
The Tebhaga movement: In Bengal, the Tebhaga movement was one of the major movements in Indian history. This movement was commenced by sharecroppers who demanded two-thirds of the harvest for themselves and one third for the landlord.
The Green Revolution(1967–1978): The Green Revolution was one of the most successful campaigns as the productivity of global agriculture increased drastically as a result of new advances being made in agricultural practices. The newly developed pesticides controlled weeds, killing insects and preventing diseases resulted in higher productivity.
Farmer’s Protest against Farm Bills(2020-21): After the government launched 3 contentious Farm Bills, various farmers and their union went on a protest for around 14 months, demanding the repealing of the Farm bills. The 3 farm bills were the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. Farmers from the regions of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were active participants of this protest.
