Milk production is also being affected by this. In view of this, an important meeting has been called today. Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, Jatindra Nath Swain said that apart from vaccination of cattle, other plans to deal with this virus will be discussed in detail in the meeting.

Goat Pox Vaccine Showing Positive Results

Secretary Jatindra Nath Swain says that currently the Goat Pox vaccine is being used. It is up to 100 percent effective. However, due to the limited number of this vaccine, there is still a problem. The company making it has been asked for its fast production. At the same time, the commercial launch of a new vaccine 'Lumpi-Provakind' for LSD developed by two institutes of agricultural research body ICAR may take 3-4 months' time.

States Affected the Most

Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are facing the most problems due to the Lumpi Virus. Here most of the cattle are affected by it. There are some sporadic cases in Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Jatindra Nath Swain said, "The number of cattle killed daily in Rajasthan is 600-700, but in other states, it is less than 100 in a day."
