The auspicious time of Sankranti will be from sunrise to 5.26 pm on January 15. This is the most important of the 12 solstices of the year.

Due to the leap year, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated again on January 14 in 2017, 2018 and 2021 and on January 15 in 2019 and 2020. This sequence will continue till 2030. After this Sankranti will be celebrated on 15th January for 3 years and on 14th January for 1st year. From 2080, Sankranti will be celebrated only on 15 January.
