For the first time, a person from Gujarat has been elected as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Dr Manoj Soni has been appointed as the Chairman of UPSC. His tenure will be completed on June 27, 2023. Dr Manoj Soni has been appointed to replace the previous Chairman Pradip Kumar Joshi. Dr Manoj Soni has also been the former Vice-Chancellor of MS University and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU).
Dr Manoj Soni had earlier been the Vice-Chancellor for three terms. These include two terms as Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University and one term as Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda.
Born on February 17, 1965, Manoj Soni is currently a member of UPSC. Dr. Manoj Soni has been the youngest Vice-Chancellor of MS University, Vadodara. Apart from this he has been the Vice-Chancellor of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) from 2009 to 2015.
Manoj Sinha used to sell incense sticks in Bhulshwar, Mumbai. He had come from a humble background but achieved tremendous heights.
He is married to Prutha who teaches at J&J College. and his son Aarsh is studying in college.
Soni completed his doctoral studies in 1995.
He did research on "Post-Cold War International Systemic Transition and Indo-US Relations.
