The dilemma of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, which is part of the UPA alliance and running the government in Jharkhand along with the Congress, still persists regarding the presidential election. Chief Minister Hemant Soren also met Home Minister Amit Shah and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday before taking a final call on the party's stand in the presidential election. It is being said that during the meeting with Shah and Kharge, Hemant Soren discussed the presidential election.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) sources said, "We have started our campaign and will reach out to everyone to seek support in the elections."He said Sinha called the offices of Modi and Singh and left a message in support of his candidacy.The former Union Minister also got in touch with his mentor and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani.Sinha will file his nomination papers on Monday afternoon in the presence of top opposition leaders.
Meanwhile, Sinha wrote a letter to all the opposition leaders who have chosen him as their general candidate for the elections to be held on July 18."I assure you and the people of India that if elected, I will faithfully uphold the core values and guiding ideals of the Indian Constitution, without any fear or favour," Sinha said.
Now all the opposition parties including BJP and Congress are waiting for the official stand of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) as to whom it decides to support in the presidential election. NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu, who is a tribal woman, belongs to Odisha and has also been the Governor of Jharkhand, or Yashwant Sinha, joint candidate of opposition parties, who has been a Lok Sabha MP from Jharkhand and whose selection was also agreed by the JMM.
NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu spoke to Hemant Soren on the phone on Saturday and sought his party's support for the presidency. On Saturday itself, JMM had also called a meeting of senior party leaders to take a decision in this regard. In this meeting, National President Shibu Soren was authorised to take a decision in the Presidential election and it was also said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren will also meet Home Minister Amit Shah before taking the final decision.
