Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh joined the BJP on Monday. With this, Captain Amarinder has also merged his party Punjab Lok Congress with BJP. On Monday, Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kiren Rijiju got him the membership of BJP. Along with Amarinder Singh, many of his allies also joined the BJP.
The Captain took the primary membership of the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Narendra Tomar and Kiren Rijiju, Sunil Jakhar and Punjab Chief Ashwani Sharma at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. In the last assembly elections, Captain had formed the Punjab Lok Congress by leaving the Congress. During the elections, his party had an alliance with the BJP.
At that time, his son Raninder Singh had played an important role in the distribution of tickets in coordination with the BJP, but in the face of AAP's storm in Punjab, the Captain's party blew up and the BJP also went to the margins. It is worth noting that the BJP has been trying for a long time to make its place in Punjab.
By merging PLC with the party, BJP wants to strengthen its position in Punjab. Amarinder Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah after his recent return from London after spinal surgery . Amarinder Singh, after his meeting with Shah on September 12, said that they had very fruitful discussions on various issues related to national security, rising narcotics-terrorism cases in Punjab and the future roadmap for the all-round development of the state. Singh, a two-time chief minister, is a descendant of the erstwhile Patiala Royal Family.
