Railway Covid-19 Guidelines: Tamil Nadu saw a steep rise in new Covid-19 cases. As per the new guidelines, passengers who have received both doses of vaccination will be allowed to travel on its suburban services with effect from January 10, the Southern Railway said on Saturday.
According to the latest set of guidelines, only passengers administered with both doses of vaccination will be allowed for taking up journeys in the Chennai vicinity.
Taking into account the current rise in Covid-19 cases and the scare of the Omicron variant, the Tamil Nadu government has implemented several restrictions from January 6 onwards. Also, following which suburban train services are operating with 50 per cent seating capacity.
Appealing to passengers, the Southern Railway said they should take up travelling as per the norms laid down by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Government of Tamil Nadu. Passengers are requested to strictly follow all Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, wearing face masks and washing hands at regular intervals in the station and also while onboard the train, the statement further added.
The Southern Railway also warned of a fine of Rs 500 for passengers found violating Covid protocols like not wearing masks.
As of Friday, the Covid-19 tally in Tamil Nadu reached 27,76,413 with 8,981 cases while the toll mounted to 36,833 with eight more fatalities.
