Vice President Election 2022: Jagdeep Dhankhar won by Margaret Alva by a margin of 346 votes

The results of the Vice Presidential Election 2022 are out. In which NDA Candidate Jagdeep Dhankhad got 528 and Opposition Candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes. Jagdeep Dhankhar will now take over as the next Vice President of India. At the same time, TMC kept its distance from voting in this election.

Out of 780 only 725 MPs voted

The voting for the post of Vice President was held till 5 pm on 6th August. Shortly after which the counting of votes was started. In the election for the Vice President of India, 725 out of 780 MPs cast their votes. 23 Lok Sabha MPs and 16 Rajya Sabha MPs of Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress stayed away from the Vice Presidential election. 

Apart from these, 2 of Samajwadi Party, 2 of Shiv Sena and Bahujan Samaj Party MP did not vote in the Vice Presidential election. At the same time, BJP MPs Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dhotre could not vote in the elections due to ill health. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi were prominent among the leaders who cast their votes in the election for the post of Vice President held today.

Margaret Alva’s comment

Margaret Alva tweeted that, "I believe these parties and their leaders have damaged their reputation by doing this. This election is over. Protect our Constitution, strengthen our democracy and restore the dignity of Parliament." The fight to do so will continue. Jai Hind." 

At the same time, the Trinamool Congress, with 36 MPs, had decided not to vote in the election. But Shubhendu Adhikari's father Shishir Adhikari and Dibyendu Adhikari voted. That is, 34 TMC MPs did not vote. Two BJP MPs did not cast their votes. Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dhotre did not vote. He could not even cast his vote in the presidential election.
