The World Teachers Day commemorated the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO UNESCO Recommendation concerning the ‘status of teachers,’ and hence the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared 5th October as “World Teachers Day in 1994. The World Teachers Day was adopted in a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in collaboration with the ILO, in Paris.

Considering the history, the UNESCO General Conference also adopted the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel in 1997, following the adoption of World Teachers Day.

World Teachers Day aims at improving, appreciating, and assessing the status of teachers and educators across the world. The day suits best and is also used to address the issues related to teachers and teaching.
